Need help studying Japanese? Here’s what I offer:

With eight years of intensive language study under my belt, I know what it’s like navigating the differences between English and Japanese. Through trial and error, I’ve learned what works best for improving comprehension, and how to enjoy the process.

Since taking my first Japanese class in 2018, I’ve lived in Japan for two years, graduated from Stanford University’s Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies, passed the N1 level of the Japanese language proficiency test, and worked at a Japanese translation company. What helped me the most in attaining fluency was the guidance of great mentors and consistent conversation practice. I hope to help beginner to high-intermediate learners level up their Japanese and have fun while doing so!

  • Through casual conversation, we can work on improving your vocabulary and refining your grammar. I offer 30, 45, and 60-minute sessions. Depending on your preference, we can talk freely about topics of your choice, or I can prepare conversation topics.

  • If you want more of a personalized lesson, we can work together to build a curriculum that best fits your learning goals. We can follow textbooks like Genki (I or II), とびら, レベルアップ日本語文法, or one of your choice. I can assign homework for reading/listening comprehension and for upping your grammar/kanji skills. If you want to practice writing or (public) speaking, I can grade your essays and presentations and we can review my feedback together.

Listed below are my starting rates for in-person and online tutoring. Depending on how much support you want, I might charge more or less. If the prices listed below are out of your budget range, I can be flexible! Please fill out the contact form and we can figure something out.

For online sessions, what platform do you use?

I use Google Meet for my online sessions.

For in-person sessions, where can we meet?

I can meet you at a cafe of your choice within Providence, Rhode Island (ideally within the Thayer/Wayland neighborhoods). Unfortunately, I cannot commute too far, so please contact me for more details.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please provide at least a 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance will receive a full refund; cancellations made between 24 hours and 48 hours in advanced will receive a 50% refund. Less than 24 hours’ notice or no-shows will be charged 100% of the session fee. Last minute cancellations due to emergencies may be rescheduled/refunded at my discretion.

How do payments work?

I charge for tutoring sessions ahead of time via Venmo. Once you have completed the payment, your session will be officially booked. See below for my cancellation policies.
